A self-reported registration surge for educator-focused AI workshops points to a format problem: faculty want practice, measurement, and workflow relevance.
A medical education AI workshop series drew a self-reported registration count of more than 1,000 for a prompting session, suggesting that faculty want hands-on help more than another overview of what AI might do. The signal comes from one podcast interview with the organizers, so it should be treated as directional rather than broad market proof.
On the Faculty Factory episode, the organizers described a workshop series built around what medical educators actually do: teach, create learning materials, organize courses, assess learners, support scholarship, evaluate AI outputs, and personalize learning. The reported registration volume matters because it is attached to a specific format: participants open an AI tool, try prompts, critique outputs, and build from basic use toward applied educator tasks.
The important distinction for CME providers is that this is not framed as generic AI literacy. It is faculty development mapped to work. That includes starting low enough for hesitant users, spacing sessions over months, recording sessions for catch-up, and using pre-surveys to measure self-assessed competence across teaching, curriculum design, assessment, and scholarly activities.

This week’s signal is about helping educators use AI in the workflow of building and improving learning itself.
The caveat is important: the registration numbers and engagement observations are self-reported by the organizers, not independently validated learner outcomes. Even so, the provider implication is concrete. If an AI CME activity cannot name the task learners will practice, the output they will evaluate, and the competence measure that will change, it may be too abstract for where faculty needs are headed.
The weak version of AI education is a webinar that leaves faculty more informed but no more capable on Monday morning. The stronger version gives them a bounded task, a safe place to try, a way to judge the output, and a measure of whether their confidence changed. For CME teams, the question is whether AI programming is still organized around the technology, or around the work educators and clinicians are trying to do with it.
