For many clinicians, the decisive design question is whether education survives interruption. The archive is starting to matter as much as the live event

Much of that evidence comes from providers describing what they built, so this is not a clean read on broad independent clinician demand. It is better read as a design pattern: providers are repeatedly foregrounding archives, replay, and modular access because late entry, missed sessions, and resume-later behavior affect what learners can actually use.

This week adds a more concrete implication: if the archive is hard to search, hard to re-enter, or disconnected from credit, the product still behaves like a one-time event. CME teams should ask a blunt question: are you designing a live session with leftovers, or an educational asset that works before, during, and after the live moment?

AI education is getting more specific about where the tool should stop

The secondary signal this week is narrower but still useful. In the available sources, AI was framed less as a general literacy topic and more around bounded use: which clinical tasks it can support, how much depends on input-data quality, and whether patient communication can be assisted without handing over the human part of the exchange (ASCO Daily News, Faculty Feed).

This develops the earlier shift captured in our January brief on judging AI safely, but with a narrower emphasis on task boundaries, data quality, and communication limits. Support is still light: one source is conference-adjacent and one is educator-facing. Even so, the implication for CME providers is straightforward: broad AI overview sessions are becoming less useful than instruction that names the task, the failure mode, and the line clinicians should not cross.

The oncology example is portable. A pathology use case, a data-quality warning, and a question about compassionate responses point to the same design need: teach clinicians where AI is helpful, what conditions make it unreliable, and which communication moments should remain explicitly human-led. If your AI programming still treats all use cases as roughly equivalent, it is probably too abstract.

What CME Providers Should Do Now

  • Audit your archive experience this quarter: searchability, replay access, modular completion, downloadable aids, and whether credit works without recreating the full live-session burden.
  • Redesign one flagship activity into smaller complete units rather than a single long recording with timestamps, then compare re-entry and completion behavior.
